Jeffrey K. Smith
Jeff Smith passed away peacefully in late December 2025 following an accident at his home.
A long-time executive in the professional publishing industry before joining our firm in 2004, Jeff made an immediate impact and completed many notable and industry-defining transactions. He was known for his professionalism, integrity, and deep understanding of his industry. He was dedicated in his support to both colleagues and clients. Jeff brought thoughtfulness and care to his work and was someone people trusted—not only for his expertise, but for his character.
Beyond his professional contributions, Jeff was a devoted family man and a loyal friend. He will be remembered for his kindness, friendship, and the lasting relationships he built throughout his life and career.
Jeff’s impact on our firm and on those who worked closely with him will not be forgotten. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

Biography
Jeff was a Managing Director at Berkery Noyes. He specialized in advising technology, information and services solutions providers in two related markets: healthcare and life sciences, and also STM publishing and software. Some of Jeff’s transactions included:

In addition, Jeff was the former President and CEO of Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, the international medical and pharmaceutical publisher, and a Wolters Kluwer company. Prior to Lippincott, Jeff was President of Kluwer Academic Publishers, the science publisher headquartered in the Netherlands. He was a graduate of Duke University and the University of Wisconsin.
