NEW YORK — October 5, 2022 — Berkery Noyes, an independent mid-market investment bank, today released its third quarter 2022 mergers and acquisitions trend report for the Online and Mobile Industry. The report analyzes M&A activity during the first three quarters of 2022 and compares it with data covering 2021.

Total transaction volume in the first three quarters of 2022 declined by five percent over the first three quarters of 2021. Total transaction value during this timeframe increased by seven percent, from $266.1 billion to $283.5 billion.

M&A activity in the E-Commerce segment remained nearly constant year-to-date over the first three quarters of 2021. Notable E-Commerce deals in the third quarter included eBay’s announced acquisition of TCGplayer, a marketplace for collectible card game enthusiasts, for $295 million; 7-Eleven’s acquisition of Skipcart, a white-label delivery startup providing same-day and on-demand delivery; and Instacart’s acquisition of Rosie, an e-commerce platform for local and independent retailers and wholesalers.

Deal volume in the SaaS & Cloud segment declined by nine percent year-to-date over the first three quarters of 2021. The segment, which was the industry’s most active segment in the first three quarters of 2022, accounted for nearly 40 percent of total volume year-to-date.

Regarding other select areas covered in the report, volume in the Communications segment decreased five percent while deal flow in the the E-Marketing & Search segment stayed almost constant.
