2022-04-05 Berkery Noyes Releases Online and Mobile Industry M&A Report For First Quarter 2022

NEW YORK — April 5, 2022 — Berkery Noyes, an independent mid-market investment bank, today released its Q1 2022 mergers and acquisitions trend report for the Online and Mobile Industry. The report analyzes M&A activity in the Online and Mobile Industry during Q1 2022 and compares it with the past four quarters.
According to Berkery Noyes’ research, Online & Mobile transaction volume saw a one percent uptick on a quarterly basis, from 840 to 848. Deal value declined 12 percent, from $86.9 billion to $76.4 billion. Of note, nine of the industry’s top ten largest deals in Q1 2022 were completed by strategic acquirers.
The number of deals in the industry’s mobile application sector rose 11 percent over Q4 2021. The sector’s largest related transaction in Q1 2022 was ShareChat’s announced acquisition of MX TakaTak, a short-video platform, for $700 million.
Other notable acquisitions of mobile application companies during the quarter included Swedish game developer Stillfront Group’s announced acquisition of Six Waves, a publisher of mobile free-to-play strategy games in Japan, for $201 million; and SciPlay Corporation’s acquisition of Alictus, a global developer and publisher of casual mobile games, for $100 million.
Deal flow in the E-Marketing & Search segment increased 18 percent over the past quarter. Meanwhile, M&A activity in the Communications segment rose 13 percent.
As for the industry‘s remaining segments, E-Commerce volume remained nearly constant and E-Content volume decreased six percent. Transaction volume in the SaaS & Cloud segment decreased seven percent during the quarter.
