Atlantic Health System is expanding New Jerseyans’ options for receiving network care with the addition of an 11-location health practice.

On March 15, the health care system announced its acquisition of Thompson Healthcare & Sports Medicine, with offices across Ocean, Monmouth, Burlington and Atlantic counties. Upon completion, AHS said it will have a majority ownership stake in Thompson Health’s nearly dozen locations. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The expansion marks the system’s entrance into Atlantic and Burlington counties for the first time.

According to Executive Vice President, Chief Business and Strategy Officer Kevin Lenahan, both providers are keen on keeping patient needs at the heart of their services.

“Innovative care that keeps each patient’s unique needs at the center of their medical journey is a hallmark of both of these two health care organizations,” he said in a statement. “By combining our efforts on behalf of the communities in central and southern New Jersey, we can ensure every patient has access to the high-quality care they deserve in a way that is convenient and comfortable for them.”

Founded in 2004, Thompson Healthcare’s services and specialties, which are now available to AHS patients, include: chiropractic, acupuncture, physical therapy, occupational therapy and medical pain management. For sports medicine, the practice uses a specialized approach to craft a rehabilitative regimen that meets patients’ unique needs. In fact, according to AHS, that collaborative mindset is prevalent across the practice’s disciplines. The Thompson Healthcare team comprises more than 75 providers – chiropractors, acupuncturists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses/nurse practitioners, massage therapists, medical doctors and surgeons – who all work together to fashion the best treatment program for each individual patient.

Its 11 locations are in Forked River, Toms River, Manahawkin, Brick, Bayville, Wall, Tinton Falls, Barnegat, Marlton, Little Egg Harbor and Linwood.

“Throughout the years, many of our patients have expressed liking the convenience of helping their problems with our team approach under one roof,” said Dr. Robert Thompson, founder and CEO of Thompson Healthcare & Sports Medicine. “We look forward to joining the Atlantic Health System network to continue providing the highest quality of care for our patients.”

Thompson Healthcare joins an extensive list of locations from AHS, including CentraState Healthcare System, seven Immediate Care urgent care centers and dozens of physicians offices. According to Paul Marmora, vice president, Ambulatory Services and Network Development, the addition helps to build on AHS’s mission to build healthier communities.

“The team at Thompson Healthcare & Sports Medicine shares our commitment to putting patients first and delivering an extraordinary experience,” he said.
