New York, March 3, 2011 – Berkery Noyes, a leading investment bank serving the information and education markets, announces that it represented Second Language Testing Inc., or SLTI, in its sale to Berlitz Corporation. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

SLTI, a premier company solely focused on language test development and test translation, has sought to fill a void in foreign language test development contracting for federal and state government agencies, for use in security, intelligence and defense work, and in the education sector.

SLTI is a principal developer of language proficiency tests used by U.S. Government agencies, which annually administer official speaking, reading, and / or listening proficiency tests in nearly 100 languages. SLTI has unequaled breadth and depth of test development experience leading to its frequent involvement at the onset of test planning and development for major U.S. Government tests.

In addition, SLTI has successfully partnered with the major testing companies to develop ESL proficiency tests and to translate standardized achievement tests into the student’s native language in many states across the U.S.

“SLTI has distinguished itself in the marketplace with its ability to develop tests for a broad spectrum of world languages and purposes. SLTI is an excellent addition to Berlitz’ dominance in providing high quality language instruction throughout the world,” said Mary Jo Zandy, Managing Director of Berkery Noyes.

“Berlitz International’s acquisition of SLTI will enhance our opportunities in the field of language test development. Berlitz will provide SLTI with resources to ensure its continued dynamic growth achieved under its Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Charles Stansfield, who will continue to lead the Company,” said Marcelo Roman, Senior Vice President Americas Region, Berlitz Corporation.
